My dear Will

Thanks for the information. Your man "James" must be — William D. JamesWest Dean Park, Chichester and 14, Great Stanhope St. [1 word illeg]. Clubs. Turfs, Arthurs, Bachelors, & Whites.! Owns 9000 acres. Travelled in Soudan [Sudan], Abyssinia [Parts of Ethiopia and Eritrea], Somaliland, Arabia, Afghanistan, W. Africa, Arctic. (Who’s Who.)

Evidently — Sport, racing, cards &c. are his specialties!

I shall write to the Board of Trade for Information.

[2] It will be 3 or perhaps 6 months before my "Tract[?]" will be ready, as I have not got clear ideas about it yet & am not up to much work yet, especially this awful hot weather! But of course you shall see either Mss. or proofs as I shall be very glad of suggestions.

Yours affectionate | Pa | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]

[3] P.S. I have been troubled about the 100,000 poor school children at the C[rystal]. Palace, as guests of the King & Queen. In all the accounts of the fète before & after in the Daily News there is no mention of any food whatever given them but. cake, buns scones & lemonade! Not a particle of wholesome food — not a word of any one square meal in the middle of the day, & most of them w[oul]d have been away from home 10-12 hours or more (9 to 6 at the Palace)! It seems incredible! Have you seen in the "Times" or "Standard" any fuller account of what food was (meals) were really given them? Every body [4] will be afraid to make complaints against the King & Queen. Yet the only additional detail I have found is that the 6000 Teachers with them had Tea!

What a Regal feast!
