THE OWENS COLLEGE,
MANCHESTER
25 March
1881
Dear Sir
I am much gratified to hear a day or two since[?] to hear from my collegue & friend Dr. Roscoe that it would be agreeable to you to receive an invitation from the Council & Senate of this College to lecture to our Evening Students.
We are agreed in thinking that [2] the first named lecture suggested by you — on Island Life — would be most widely interesting.
You will have been informed of all necessary details[?] by my Colleague, I dare say. I may as well repeat, however, that the occasion is at close of our Evening Session, & the date Friday 29th April.
I send here— [3] with a copy of our Evening Class Syllabus for the current Year, which you will find contains a report of last year's work.
I see I have forgotten in terms to convey the invitation of our Council & Senate. You will kindly understand that I write in [4] this name and on the conditions mentioned to you by Dr. Roscoe.
Very Sincerely Yours | J. G. Greenwood [signature]
Alfred R. Wallace Esq[uire].
