Dear Sir.

Thanks for your treatise.2 The difference between is the mere question of Time; and then[?] only to the following extent. If Geology carries the antiquity of Man beyond a certain point all I do is to criticize the evidence to the best of my power, &, unless I find a flaw in it, take the date it gives. If asked, however, if Ethnology requires an equal antiquity & so [2] strengthens by[?] the inference from Geology, I should say that it did not; the most that could be said being that the two were not incompatible. I suppose you hold that the Ethnological view is positively confirmatory of the Geological.
