My dear Sir,

At the request of the Council, I have consented to accept the Presidency of the R.G.S. in the ensuing year, 1911-12, in succession to Major Darwin, who retires at the Anniversary Meeting on May 22nd.

It will be my duty as the incoming President, to take the Chair at the Annual Dinner which will be held at the Hotel Cecil on Friday evening, May 26th.

As this is Coronation year, in which visitors from all parts of the world will be gathered in London, I am anxious to make the Dinner an occasion of special mark, and to secure the attendance of as many geographers of distinction as possible.

It is my particular hope that I may have to privilege of being supported by the great majority of my Fellow Medaalists as the Guests of the Society, and I trust therefore, that you may find it in your power to accept the very pressing invitation which I now send.

[2] I feel that the Society cannot better celebrate this important occasion than by entertaining those eminent persons, upon whom it has already in bygone years conferred its highest award.
