Much honoured Sir: —
I send you herewith a copy of the translation of your wonderful "Wonderful Century" carried out by a young student who I presume has got your permission in doing so some years ago. The translation is not a full one, but rather an abstract, and I had the pleasure of looking over the manuscript for any errors that might have crept in.
I fear only that we were not able to state the matter as clear and as interesting as in your original. We tried [2] however, not to spoil your original.
Hoping that you will do us the honour in receiving our translation,
I remain | Yours respectfully | D[octo]r. C. Ishikawa [signature]
Professor of Zoölogy in the University, Tokyo.
A.R. Wallace Esq[ui]re
P.S. May I not perhaps ask your kindness in favouring me with a recent photograph of yours, as I like very much to put it in a book of mine on "The Theory of Descent" to be published soon.
The name of the student who translated the book is called Nakashima Moichi, as I have forgotten to mention it above.
