My dear Sir
I have your kind favor [sic] of the 1st inst and am extremely obliged by your frank & full criticism of my book[.] Your commendation of the first part is of course highly valued by me, but I am more obliged to you for pointing out the defects of the Second portion, and I can See that you are quite right[.] [2] I will commence at once to rework that part and when the time comes for publication[,] if I may I will be only too glad to send the proof sheets to you for your further criticisms.
I have long been a producer of wealth[?] and organisation of labor[?] but though I have thought long and deeply upon the subject yet I am only a novice at making books [3]3 and highly value the advice of one so experienced as yourself. I have order[ed] your "Studies Scientific & Social"3 and anticipate much pleasure from the study of Same.
With regard to your Kind offer in the last paragraph of your letter I had not thought of any new organisations[.]
The book is very largely used by various Sections of the Labor [sic] & Social democratic party as a text book for Study & public lectures & this is all I hoped for[.] It is also being used in [4] Belgium[,] South Africa & several american States for that purpose — but as yet it is only known to this small[?] circle of Socialists[.] The next edition I shall make more condensed as you suggest & publish at a lower price. All I want is to spread the light & remove the reproach from Socialist[s] of having no practical progressions[?]
If by amalgamation with the Garden City or any other organisation the end could be more rapidly reached I should be glad[.]
I am yours truly | John Richardson [signature]4
