My dear Wallace

Your letter came during my absences on a holiday. I fear I shall be too late in answering you.

Besides the Grouse in England I should consider only the [2] Coal Tit (Parus ater) and the Long-tailed Tit (acredula vagans) to be distinct as species. There is even some little doubt as to whether the latter does not go on the continent and "run into" A. caudata. The [3] specimens exhibited by Count Von Berlepsch at a recent Zoo meeting seem almost to suggest this.
