Dear Sir

The illus Although many of the illustrations which I use in my lecture on Pelagic Life exhibit the phenomenon of protective colouration [illeg.] or transparency, the only ones which I specially employ in the lecture for demonstrating the peculiar protective colouration of Pelagic animals are as follows

Salpa gonaria chain

Solitary Salpa

Physalia

Velella. two views

Porfita

Janthinia

Glaucus Atlanticus2

Sapphirrlima female

[2]

Bythotrephes longimanus

Leptodora Hyalina3

[illeg.] coerulea

The illustrations were photographed on glass from various monographs in the Royal Society Library and then coloured by hand. As far as I know they could only be reproduced by using the negatives prepared when they were made which I imagine are not likely to have been kept. or if having fresh negatives taken from the monographs. As painted photographs could not be printed from. I can easily give you a list of the monographs in which the figures of the animals [3] in the list which I selected for my purpose occur if that would be of any service to you[.]

Believe me | yours faithfully | H N Moseley4 [signature]
