Dear Mr. Wallace,

I find that, as a fact, Spruce was elected A. L. S. a few months before his death. I took a personal interest in the matter and I am glad to think that it gave him real pleasure. His death occurring in the same official year as his election his name [2] does not appear in either the earlier or the later list.

The document bears the embossed seal of the Director, Royal Gardens Kew and a British Museum stamp; the body of the letter may have been written in another hand to that of Thiselton-Dyer.
