Mr Alfred R Wallace

Parkstone Eng[land] —

Dear sir

I have on hand about five thousand duplicates.3 Diurnal and nocturnal Lepidoptera. In papers in good condition. I do not want to keep them and would take pleasure in mailing anything you want if I have them or can get them, without charge of course, as I do nothing now with specimens in a commercial way. My private collection of insects fills 142 drawers 19 x 23 inches. I have also a fine collection of Marine invertebrates Minerals, fossils, &c. But no duplicates to spare. The specimens I have to distribute are mostly from this country — The list is too long to write but if you will name the species you care for I will try [2] 4 [3] send them = If you do not care for any I will send a few to anyone you designate = But I do not care to supply any person who collects simply to see how large a collection can be secured = I am spending much time now in making psychological experiments = Spiritualism —&c— I understand that you have investigated some in the direction= I will not annoy you by giving the results but if I can be of any service to you or the societé I will do what I can in that direction=

Please excuse me for presuming to address you, but I am so familiar with your contributions to science that I almost feel acquainted with you

Very Respectfully | J. H. Werum[signature]

The company name has been annotated 'W. H. —'.
The headed paper also includes a box listing the types of material for sale: 'Native and Exotic Insects, Corals, Sponges, Shells, Crustaceans, Echinoderms, Minerals, Fossils, Etc., Etc.'.
The writer appears to use an 'equals' sign, perhaps for a dash, or for a full stop, used here.
This side of the page contains two sketches, one perhaps of a building containing a shop or shops on two floors and the other of a diagram (upside down) consisting of two concentric circles, perhaps including measurements, 100 at a point on the top of the inner circle, 110 at a point in the centre and 120 at a point on the bottom.
