My dear Wallace

The only other papers I have published on the Physical Geography of Palestine, are the first three chapters of my "Natural Hist[ory]. of the Bible" S[ociety]. [for] P[romoting]. C[hristian]. K[nowledge].1 7/6.

My Royal Society paper is not published, & I have [2] not a M.S. copy of it, or I w[oul]d. have sent you one— I believe my chapters in the book I have mentioned are contain the only published information on this subject, except Lartet’s2 Geological papers in the French Transactions3. De Saulcy4 is utterly valueless & has more mistakes than facts, calls flint-charts volcanic lava, & sunbirds humming birds &c. [3] Lynch5 is only good for the Jordan & Dead Sea topographically, but his geology is wildly at fault— The best paper on the Dead Sea is Grove’s article in Smith’s Dictionary of the Bible (Murray) under the head "Salt Sea."6 In the same work under the head ‘Palestine’ you will find the most copious collection of meristem [?] by Hooker7, from myself & others.8 I think these will give you all you want.

With best wishes of the [3] season from our circle & compliments to Mrs Wallace9[.]

Y[ou]rs most truly | H. B. Tristram [signature]
