Dear Wallace,

We are bringing out a Report of our Scientific Society for last year2 & we shall be very grateful if you will allow us to print the paper which you so kindly gave us. If you can accede to this request we shall be glad to have it soon —

I am | Very truly yours | George Griffith [signature]

If you will be be at the Exeter meeting of the Association, let me know.3

The number "136" in pencil is in the top right corner, probably added by the repository.
Presumably the Report of the 38th meeting of the BAAS, of which Griffith was the Assistant General Secretary, in Norwich, August 1868. No paper by ARW found in this report. A brief abstract of a paper read in Dundee at the meeting of Section D, Biology, of the BAAS, 9 Sep. 1867, had been printed in the report of BAAS meeting 37: Wallace, A. R. 1868, On birds' nests and their plumage; or the relation between sexual differences of colour and the mode of nidification in birds. Report of the British Association for the Advancement of Science 37: 2 [p. 97], in "Notices and Abstracts of Miscellaneous Communications to the Sections".
The Exeter meeting of the BAAS was in August 1869.
