My dear Sir

Your note has just reached me here. I am moving about the country with my staff in the Survey1; all my papers are in Edinburgh but as soon as I get there which will be in ten days or so, I shall search for a copy of the paper you wish & of any others of mine bearing on the same subject[.]

[2] When I last saw Sir Charles Lyell2 he told me you had been going into the question of lake-basins. I lately found some interesting materials in that way in the Salzkammergut where a little glacier is busy grinding out a basin. I must try to write out my notes of it.
