Referring to A History of the Birds of Europe, Including All the Species Inhabiting the Western Palaearctic Region, a 9 volume set that was published in parts beginning in 1871 to 1896. The first parts were co-authored by H. E. Dresser and Sharpe. See [p. iii, Vol. 1].
