March 6th 1875

Dear Mr. Wallace.

At meeting of Council yesterday it was unanimously resolved to request you to consent to be President of Section D with charge of the Department of Anthropology &c. As you are aware D is [2] divided in three Departments — of which the President takes one & two vice Presidents the other two.

This year it seemed right that the Department of Anthropology should have the honor of having the President — & the Council felt that it could not be in [3] better hands than yours. Sclater1 & Cleland2 have been requested to be Vice Presidents with charge of Zoology with Botany & Anatomy with Physiology respectively.

Yours very truly | M. Foster3 [signature]

Sclater, Philip Lutley (1829-1913). British lawyer, zoologist and ornithologist, secretary to the Zoological Society of London.
Cleland, John (1835-1925). Chair of anatomy in Queen's College, Galway, from 1863 until 1877.
Foster, Michael (1836-1907). British physiologist and politician. Secretary of the Royal Society of London.
