My dear Wallace
Yesterday I was surprised by the arrival of your 'Geographical Distribution of Animals', for which my very best thanks.
The first impression I had was that of astonishment as the extent of the work, the record at the mass of information contained in it, and at [2] the admirable arrangement of the contents. Of course its story[?] will require a long time, & you may rely upon it that, as I shall frequently have to refer to it, I shall mark for your fortune are, where more recent investigations shall be obliged.
At present, I am writing a paper on deep sea fishes.
I have been asked by a Traveller to recommend him a glossary of zoological forms. If you should happen to know of one will you kindly drop me a line.
Yours very truly | A. Günther [signature]
