Alfred R. Wallace Esq
Dear Sir
I should not have suggested Oceania as a subject for you to write upon in The Contemporary Review had I not understood, on the authority of Charmber’s Encyclopaedia, that Oceania included [2] the Malayalm Archepelago [sic] and other places with which your name is specially associated.
Now that I learn that I was mistaken, let us forget Oceania please, and turn to some other natural history subjects which would be congenial to you, and at the same time suitable to our pages. [3] There must be no lack of such, and if you will kindly let me know what you would like to write upon, I shall have much pleasure in giving an immediate reply.
Yours very truly | A Strahan [signature]
