Dear Mr Wallace,

It is with a somewhat selfish pleasure that I hear you are a candidate for the post about to be created by the Conservatives of Epping Forest. For as a Londoner, I am greatly interested in the preservation and improvement of that interesting and beautiful district and I know how in your hands it would be preserved and improved.

[2] Of course I know well enough your enthusiastic love of natural beauty and especially of plants — from your conservation and writings but in addition I know by observation what you can actually do in the way of planting and improvement, the judiciousness of your selections your writing attention and care.

[3] Much heartily then do I wish you success for I do not believe there is another man in England so well qualified for the post.

Believe me | Yours faithfully | St George Mivart [signature]
