I have only just on my return to London received your note. I hope I am not too late in giving[?] the memories. It would give me sincere pleasure [2] to find that you were successful in your application. I believe a better man and me who worked more thoroughly carry out the wishes of the public and at the same time secure [3] the sympathies of all interested in scientific and aesthetic truth could not be appointed.
