Though I have not the honour of being personally known by you I presume[?] writing for asking you the authorization to translate into French your excellent work "Tropical Nature."3 I may add, as to my qualification that I have translated lately most of M. Darwin's4 works; Sir John Lubbock's5 "Prehistoric Times"6 and "Origin of Civilisation"7; M. Tylor's8 "Primitive Culture"9; M. J. Evans'10, "Stone Ages"11.
I hope, should you grant me your authorization, the work would be published in the [1 word illeg] of the present year.
