My dear Violet1
I enclose cheque for £5.0.0. — also some Zoo tickets, which if you do not use you can leave with Miss Macdonald. I should think you might go by the night train in a ladies compartment which there is sure to be, — that is if it allows you to return by a convenient train. We have no idea when your regular holidays are — I suppose about [the] end of April.
[2] My Cambridge trip turned out all right except that I got a bit of asthma owing to cold damp air, & here it has turned to bronchitis which I am now nursing. I staid[sic] with Mr. & Mrs. Myers2,3 who are very nice, with two nice children at home & one at school. Mrs. Myers is sister to Mrs. Stanley. She is a magnificent photographer & does grand pictures of her children & all sorts of people, Gladstone &c...We had great Spiritualistic talks, & Prof. [&] Mrs Sidgwick4,5 & some others came to dinner on [3] Tuesday. I gave them a copy of "Merrie England" to read & give away so as to "spread the light".
Auntie Rose6 drinks stout & seems to be getting quite strong again. Daffodils were brought round here just a month ago from Lytchett, but we have not managed to go to see them yet.
Am very busy — so adieu!
Your affectionate Pa | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]

[4] P.S. On Wednesday April 4th there is to be a discussion on Socialism & Henry Georgison[?] at the Rotunda Lecture Hall, between two Single Taxers and two Fabians7. It will no doubt be worth hearing. Reserve seats 6d rest free.
