Dear Sir: —
I send you herewith the promised roots of some of our Alpine Primula which I hope will reach you in healthy condition and will please you.
The enclosed are the seed-cups of a species of primula I obtained in the garden of my friend in Aomori — a town on this side of the Tsugaru strait. The spe[cies]. [2] is found in Yezo, and on some high mountains of the main Island.
May I ask you for the permission of the translation of your book — the Worlds of Life you wrote me in your last letter?
Very respectfully yours | C. Ishikawa [signature]2

This is a photo of a lake on the top of the mountain in the North of the main island, whereabout the P[aeonia] tenuifolia[?] grows.
