Dear Mr. Wallace,

I am sure you will be interested to know that I have just seen Mr Druce1, who has had the Lepidoptera your young friend Birch2 has sent from Trinidad He says that they are extremely well collected and that he is very well pleased [2] with them. I hear that there is already a collector (Entomological) in the interior of British Guiana — in the neighbourhood of Roraima, and that Mr. Schaus3 has also just returned from Guiana with a very large collection, so I do not think Birch would do better than the mountains [3] in the interior of northern Brazil — Of course there is still plenty to be done on the tributaries of the upper Amazon but let him try Brazil first.

Very truly y[ou]rs | F. D. Godman [signature]
