Dear Mr. Wallace,

I am sure you will be interested to know that I have just seen Mr Druce¹, who has had the Lepidoptera your young friend Birch² has sent from Trinidad He says that they are extremely well collected and that he is very well pleased [2] with them. I hear that there is already a collector (Entomological) in the interior of British Guiana — in the neighbourhood of Roraima, and that Mr. Schaus³ has also just returned from Guiana with a very large collection, so I do not think Birch would do better than the mountains [3] in the interior of northern Brazil — Of course there is still plenty to be done on the tributaries of the upper Amazon but let him try Brazil first.
