Dear Sir,

In October 1890, I brought out a little book entitled "Modern Christianity & Modern Spiritualism" in which I took the liberty of quoting rather extensively from some of your works (amongst others) and thought it a duty to send you a copy thereof to an address which I obtained from Mr James Burners3 (I think it was at Guildford or near there). It was returned to me thro’ the G.P.O marked "Gone away, — address unknown".

A few days ago I had the pleasure of seeing Mr F.W.H. Myers4 (of the S.P.R) and in the course of conversation, your name being mentioned, he said he could give me your present address as I was desirous of accomplishing what I had failed to do in 1890.

[2] If I have the right address this time I should like to forward the book, if you will do me the favor to accept it, and signify the same by a Post Card bearing the word Yes, or No.

I should also feel greatly obliged, if you can spare time to look thro’ it, if you would favour me with your candid opinion thereon by pointing out any errors or blindness of which I may have been unconsciously guilty.

I hope you will excuse my troubling you upon this occasion as I have only the welfare of the cause at heart and permit me to remain | Yours faith[ull]y | R. Hopton [signature]
