Dear Sir

I trust you will not think it an intrusion on my part if I venture to send you my heartfelt thanks for your article in this month's Fortnightly [2] & that you should have inferred the lists in reference of principles which have for years been very near my heart, and, I cannot but think, near the hearts of all who care for humans progress, for goodness, & for true science, is [3] matter of the deepest satisfaction to me, and I cannot refrain from expressing my gratitude to you. —

That you should have done me the great honour to quote some words of mine as expressing your own views affords more comfort & encouragement than you know to one who, in [4] every sense, except perhaps the pecuniary one is a rather struggling author. But this is a matter of minor importance. The great thing is that you have induced, I hope, these intolerable blasphemies for which service I for one, & all women, surely, who think & feel, must feel deeply indebted to you.

Very faithfully yours | E. R. Chapman [signature]
