N.W. Cor[ner] Fifth & Calvert Sts.

Baltimore MD. U.S.A.

October 9. 1890.

Dear Mr. Wallace.

Some of my nationalist friends to whom I have shown your very kind letter about my Political Economy, would like to see the enclosed extract published in one of our newspapers1 & presume it might be helpful at the present time. Please let me know whether you have any [2] objections.

What you say is extremely interesting.

My attitude is simply this: I do not accept the full programme of nationalism but I am glad to see nationalism encouraged because I think it is the direction in which us in this country at last ought to move.

I send under another cover a reprint of an recent article which I wrote on government ownership of Railways.

Faithfully yours | Richard T. Ely. [signature]

It would ultimately be published as: ‘An English Nationalist: Alfred Russell[sic] Wallace Converted By Bellamy’s Book.’, New York Times (New York, 1 February 1891).
