Queen Anne’s Lodge,

St. James’ Park S. W.

Feb[ruary] 18th 1893

Dear Sir,

Pray accept my apology for not sooner replying about your kindly offer which is "A carnival[?] of perfection" — The delay has been mostly owing to the [?] crowd upon me of contributions requiring attention and perusal.

I am very happy to accept it for the X/X! And — if you will not bind me to a definite date of publication — for I think your proposal so original as well as so logical + to ensure a useful discu[ss]ion in the public mind.

I shall also gladly take your "Maccefirth[?] valleys" — with the greatest pleasure — whenever it is ready. Can you tell me when that is likely to be?

Yours very truly | & obliged | James Knowle [signature]
