Upper Holloway,

London, N.

13 March, 1901.

Dear Dr. Wallace,

Thank you very much for your kind letter.

I quite agree with your high estimate of Mr. Richardson's2 book. I happened to be staying with him from Saturday until Tuesday morning, at Lincoln, where I went to speak for the local Peace Association.

Dr Herron3 is certainly a man who is going to accom- [2] -plish something. I saw a good deal of him some years ago when he was in London. His comrades in the Social Crusade4 are also strong men. A visit from Dr. Herron and Stitt Wilson5 to this country would I am sure do good — especially among the people who are still inside the churches. They cannot come at present, but expect to be able in the course of this year.

Yours, with great esteem, | J. Bruce Wallace6 [signature]

The Christian Socialist movement in America emerged in the late 1880s. Of particular importance to the early American Socialist Party were the "Social Crusaders," a loose grouping organized by George Herron and centred around the monthly magazine The Social Crusader.
