On behalf of our socialistic publisher A. B. Soep, I take the liberty to kindly beg you for permission to translate 'The Wonderful Century'. Mr Soep regrets not being able to offer you any reasonable terms for the right of translation. But our country is so small and the difficulties with which a Dutch publisher, especially a socialistic one has to compete, are so great that he is unable to do so. If you would kindly give me your permission nevertheless M^r. S. would [2] greatly appreciate your kindness. Though Holland is not a member of the Bern Convention, he would infinitely prefer only publishing as authorized translation.
