Dear Dr. Wallace,

I am very pleased to hear that the small collection of mosses sent for Mr. Mitten has been of interest to him. Duplicates of them were sent to Berlin Botanic Garden, to the British Museum & to Rev. Binstead, Herefordshire.

From Berlin I have a list of determinations by B. C. Miller, who thinks that there are 20 new species amongst them. Even the number acknowledged by Mr. Mitten seemed to me to be a very surprising [1 word crossed out, illeg.] proportion, & the moss flora of Jamaica evidently [2]1 repay a collector's trouble. I will send you more later on.

When spring comes on again, & there will be no danger in sending Orchids to England, you shall have specimens of Oncidium pulchellum & O. triquetrum.

I am very glad to hear that it was a false report that I heard of the death of Mr J. C. Transell-Pleydell[?]. If you see him, please give him my kind regards.

Very truly yours | W Fawcett [signature]
