Dear Sir

I am very glad to think that the orchids have reached you in fair condition. I am sorry that Dendrobium anceps has succumbed. It was only sent in the hope that its habit might interest you for its flowers are of very little account[.] But the section [illeg.] to which it belongs travels very badly. Another time we may hope for better success.

[2] It was most kind of you to ask your publishers to forward a copy of "Natural Selection."1 It has reached me safely and I am exceedingly obliged to you for so kindly sending it[.]

Yours faithfully | David Prain2[signature]
