Dear Dr. Wallace

Falsan's2 original map appeared in a series of large sheets which form the Atlas accompanying his work entitled "Monographie géologique des anciens glaciers et du terrain erratique de la partie moyenne du basin du Rhone["]: par A. Falsan et E. Chantre3. 1879. 2 vols. Fortunately a reduction of the large map is inserted in vol. ii. a copy of which I send you. (The author re-issued the map in a separate paper, from which I have taken the enclosed.) You could doubtless borrow Falsan's large work from some of the libraries: but it is easier 24 to copy from a map which [2] is not bound up. Please keep this map as long as you please — I am in no hurry for its return, as I have Falsan & Chantre's big book & this Atlas 2 refer 2, if I wish 2 do so.

Yours very truly | James Geikie5 [signature]

Pray don[']t trouble wrapping up this map elaborately when you return it — I have done so 2 keep it flat for the copyist. Just double it up in any ordinary envelope.

Page numbered 63 in pencil in top RH corner.

Chantre, Ernest (1843-1924) French archaeologist and anthropologist.

British Museum stamp.
