Dear Dr Wallace

Only a few days back from a 3½ monthly trip to the U S A you will kindly excuse that I did not answer your letter of Sept 8 sooner. Your letter of Nov 16 reminds me of my duty. I gladly agree as to Pteridophora.1

I neglected to treat the Tasmanians in relation to the Negritas though I am of opinion that they have nothing to do with them. Should I reem to the question I shall however give my meaning in full.

The affinities of the Australians have been discussed a. o. by the Sarasins in their work on Ceylon, they consider them to be related to the Waddas. All these questions are very difficult to treat scientifically as the data on physical Anthropology are still insufficiently known.

Did you see Wigleworth’s & my work on the "Birds of Celibes".2 I wonder that "Nature" has not yet given a Review. Would you mind to review it there & shall I ask the Publisher for a copy for this purpose?

I enjoyed my trip to the U S enormously & learned a great deal. The Agassiz Museum disappointed me however though the Idea [2] after which it is arranged is unique.

I look forward to your collected papers with the greatest interest[.]

Believe me | Yours very sincerely | A B Meyer3 [signature]

Pteridophora refers to Pteridophora alberti (King-of-Saxony bird-of-paradise)
Meyer, A. B. & Wiglesworth, L. W. (1898). The birds of Celebes and the neighbouring islands, Berlin :R. Friedländer
