Dear Sir,
Dr Guiltward[?] has sent me your letter in which you expressed the wish to use one of my Tongan photographs to illustrate a volume[?] of your papers. It affords me great pleasure to place it at your disposal. [2]
I have written to the photographer who has my negatives to print a copy of this one, and if this is not satisfactory I shall be pleased to have the negative sent to you.
You may be interested to learn that the "sisi" [3] which the man wears round his neck is made of strips of Hibiscus bark, and ferns which grow on the volcanic island of Eua, and not on the raised coral islands which constitute the greater part of the rest of the group.
Believe me | yours very faithfully | J. J. Histon [signature]
