My dear Wallace
I am right[?] glad to know that Spruce’s2 letters have found an Editor, & especially in you. I will gladly do what I can towards the grant, from R.S. "Gov[ernmen]t Grant for Scientific Investigation" which is I suppose what you refer to as the "R. S. Government Publication Grant" & am writing to Markham3 on the subject. I cannot conceive any difficulty in obtaining it.
You no doubt have "The Year Book of the R. S. for 1906" wherein p. 103 the regulations for applications [2] are detailed & the last day of January given as the latest date for applications to be received for the consideration of the Committee of that year.
Sincerely yours | J. D. Hooker4 [signature]
