Letter (WCP2920.2810)

[1]

he[?] will remember the opportunity for children to be taught by your daughter if a chance arises. It could be a most ideal place for a child to live in.

I am dedicating my volume of Essays1 to Meldola2 who first inspired me to work at these questions and I should wish to put it in this form, but before doing so should like to obtain your consent. [2]

"To Raphael Meldola,

Whose earlier writings under the inspiring influence of Charles Darwin3 & alfred Russell[sic] Wallace were the foundation of a friendship and a life-work."

My Burchell4 is not out; but I have as the result of my lecture on him in Cape Town come to possess know of a mine of his papers and in S. Africa I am hoping to recover the lost section of notes on Brazilian insects: so I am withholding publication for a [3] time. It could be most annoying to publish and then find the completion of the notes when it was too late.

With Kindest regards [illeg.] | I am very sincerely | E. B. Poulton [signature]

P.S. Birch[?]5 might then[?] do up such parcels himself & send direct to Stevens6 — that is of the things he found abundantly: keeping out the rare ones for Tring7, BM8 &c. There would be no necessity for names. Mostly[?] could be treated in the same way. E.B.P.
