Dear Dr Wallace,
I am very much obliged to you for your letter. I note that you are not able to lend us anything for our proposed Darwin2 exhibition; or, at any rate, that you do not seem to think that you have anything that would be of special interest to us.
The other part of your letter, referring to your suggestion that the Museum should undertake the preparation of lists of specimens in the collections, opens a very large question. You will, I trust, excuse me if I do not at once express a definite opinion on the subject. I should prefer to have a little time in which to consider the probable effects of trying to carry out your proposal, and to consult some of those who would be specially concerned. And in any case the matter is probably too important for me to deal with without referring to the Trustees.
I remain | Yours very truly | S. F. Harmer [signature]
Dr Alfred Russel Wallace
