BEDALES,
PETERSFIELD,
HANTS.
June 8th [19]09.
Dear Sir,
Very many thanks for your kind letter and generous loan of books on Phrenology. I will look through them carefully, and if I should decide as a result of this that I could with advantage take up the study seriously I will gladly avail myself of your kind permission to retain the books until thoroughly read. For reference [2] I had perhaps better name them here
Coombe's[sic] [Combe's] Principles — 2 vols, and
Spurzheim's Phrenology — 1 vol.
I will take an opportunity of communicating with Mr Webb1 before very long.
I had no idea that Mr Casey2 was an old friend of yours, and I am glad to hear from him that you are specially interested in the educational aims of this school.
With cordial thanks, I am | Yours very truly | C. E. Rice [signature]
