Dr S. H. Koorders.

Plantsoen 51,

Leiden.

Leiden 8 July 1909.

Dear Sir,

I am greatly obliged to you for your kind letter of June 24th and I am very glad to see, that my notes had some value for you.

You are quite right, where you say that the actual number, if all were known, would be very much larger than the estimates, founded on the numbers of the species, which have been collected. Indeed the total number would certainly come near to the estimate, which you give.

About New Guinea I am sorry I can not give you estimates, because I only study the flora of Java. Put[sic] you are quite right, where you and Sir Joseph point out the richness and the peculiarity of that flora.

About the Javanese isle of Nusa Kambangan I only explored a small part methodically and so the estimates of the species collected and mentioned in my last letter only regards that part of Nusa Kambangan; the number for the whole isle Nusa Kambangan may be a little larger. How much larger I can not say.

The whole isle Nusa Kambangan is, according to the Encyclopaedie van Nedelandsch Indie, about 2, 3 square geographical miles.

Yours very faithfully | S. H. Koorders [signature].2
