Dear Dr Wallace,

Yes; Beccari2 did go with D'Albertis3, but not to New Guinea, I think. And he is primarily a botanist. You ought most certainly to read his book, for his theories on evolution will, I feel sure, interest you greatly. They are, I think, very remarkable.

For your other questions I think the best thing would be to write straight to Beccari who is, for all I know to the contrary [2] still alive, and would, I feel sure, be glad to help you if he can. His address w[oul]d be:-

Signor Odoardo Beccari

R. Museuo

19, Via Romana, 19

Florence

I am hoping to take a little holiday in Dorset this autumn. There are two or three places I want to see, and Wimborne is one of them. I shall look forward, if I may, to the pleas[ure] [3]4 of calling upon you as I pass through, and reviving my memories of New Guinea wanderings. Have you seen the marvellous live Birds of Paradise they have at the "Zoo", brought home by Goodfellow5.

Very sincerely yours | F.H.H Guillemard6 [signature]
