My Dear Wallace

I can see no answer to your statistics & arguments. Of course I should like to see what the doctors can say in reply, as [1 word illeg. and deleted] it is difficult to believe in such a wide spread blunder. But so far as the statistics with with w[hich]. you deal go — & that is by far — I cannot imagine a convincing answer. I am much obliged to you for letting me see the pamphlet; & I shall hand it on to [2 words illeg.] last, with your letter, [2] & a letter of my own.

The unveracity [sic.] of WB Carpenter1, & especially of Ernest Hart2, ought not to surprise me after what I already know of their standards in contriving: — but it is staggering all the same!

Yours most truly | FWH Myers [signature]3

Carpenter, William Benjamin Carpenter (1813-1885). British physician, zoologist and physiologist.
Ernest Abraham Hart (1835-1898). British medical journalist.
