Dear Sir,

I thank you for your letter of the 26th instant and am obliged with regret to entirely agree with many of your remarks regarding the way in which this subject was approached at the Institute of Actuaries. The proceedings unfortunately partook more the nature of a demonstration in favour of Vaccination than of a scientific enquiry into the evidence available. There seems indeed to be some subtle principle in the Vaccination question which precludes many people from taking a calm unbiassed[sic] view of the facts.

I am sorry to hear that you do not feel that you have time to engage in any public controversy on the subject and should be glad [2]² glad[sic] to know whether you have any objection to my sending your letters to the "Insurance Record" or at all events to my friend Mr. Young for his private eye.

With regard to the "Insurance Records" I had the pleasure of sending you these are in fact the only copies I have but should you for any reason wish to file them with your other papers on this subject I shall be glad for you to keep them and I can easily obtain other copies.
