Dear Mrs Wallace

I am so sorry not to have been able to see you yesterday and especially that we shall not be able to accept your kind invitation. We have been intending all the [2] summer to take our chance of finding you at home some afternoon: and now I fear we have missed the pleasure of seeing Mr Wallace before he starts on his great journey —

[3] We have had an especially busy summer in various ways, or should not have missed our chance so unfortunately.

with kind regards & many thanks, & best wishes to Mr Wallace for a [4] successful voyage, (in which my husband would join were he here) believe me dear Mrs Wallace | Sincerely yours | Helen Allingham [signature]1
