Dear Sir,

Moral Instruction of Children

Miss E. Vallance had handed me your letter, in which you express approval of my proposed method of teaching in place of the present orthodox method.

I have made a note [2] of your suggestions as to swimming and an intelligent use of revolvers, etc. This type of conduct will come under the head which I have called "Self-control, self-reliance, self-help."

I should be very grateful if you could make any more suggestions. A good many people approve my "Plan" but not many give me useful hints.

With regard to you [3]2 idea of giving a broader name to the method, I often call it instruction in personal and civic duties. We might call it "Civic instruction" as the French do, only that seems to throw the stress too much upon the citizen side.

May I add that I remember seeing you once some years ago at an anti-vaccination meeting in Bloomsbury, at which Mrs Anna Kingsford [4] spoke. I am an anti-vaccinist myself, and have three children untouched by vaccine.

Believe me | Yours very truly | F. J. Gould [signature]3
