Beachside,

Walmer,

Kent.

7th. April 1899.

My dear Mr. Wallace,

Our relations in Connection with the Examinations have always been such pleasant ones & we have always received such valuable help from You, that I am exceedingly sorry that we shall not again meet at the examiners boards.

[2] But I fully realise the good reasons which induce you to decide in giving up this drudgery. My best wishes for your enjoyment during this & many future Springtides.

Many thanks to you for mentioning the same of Mr. Pickard-Cambridge1, whose reputation is so well known to me. At the first Vacancy, I will put his name before Sir Norman Lockyer2 [3] & it shall be fully Considered.

I ought perhaps to mention that owing to the new policy of the Department, in substituting, where possible, inspection for examination, the member if examiners required has been steadily diminishing of late years.

With very kind regards | Believe me to remain, | Yours very faithfully | John W Judd [signature]

Pickard-Cambridge, Octavius (1828-1917). English clergyman and zoologist.
Lockyer, Sir Joseph Norman (1836-1920). English scientist and astronomer.
