My dear friend, —
About five weeks ago I wrote to you about a short article for the N.Y. World with which I am now connected; and up to date have received no answer from you.
If you could send me a 500 word forecast of the twentieth century, I should be personally ever so much indebted to you, and the World would I am sure be very liberal in the remuneration of your kindness.
I have undertaken the task [2] of preparing an "End of the Century book" for the World, & the permenancy of my employment depends upon the success of my undertakings, so I am especially anxious to have a few words from you. A half dozen sentences would be better than nothing, if you have no time for more.
I find myself discriminated against in New York journalism because of my Socialist views, & lost a good position on the editorial staff of the N Y journal two months ago because of my radicalism. [3] If you wish to collect & preserve such clippings as the enclosed, I could send you quite a few, as they frequently appear in our papers.
Yours very truly, | Herbert N Casson1 [signature]
