WESTCLIFF-ON-SEA,

ESSEX.1

Dear Sir

A correspondent whom I have never seen, sends me a letter of yours, in which you do me the honour of speaking not unappreciatively of certain points in a tiny book of mine "The Face Beyond the Door"2.

It is true that you express unqualified disapproval & dislike of that portion of the book in which the dogma of the Divinity of Christ is urged, but if you will forgive me for saying so I am so proud to know that the profoundest character of the time has done me the honour of reading & even of speaking generously of the book apart from its last chapter that I am venturing to express my gratitude.

I am, dear Sir | Most faithfully yours | Coulson Kernahan3 [signature]
