Dear Sir,

An International Anti-Vivisection and Animal Protection Congress will be held in London from July 6th to July 10th 1901. It promises to be one of the largest gatherings of humanitarians ever held, and will, it is hoped, afford striking proof of the strength and extension of the human movement. The congress will commence on the evening of July 6th with a Reception at the Westminster Palace Hotel, and it will end on Sunday July 11th with a Special Service in the Church of the Archdeacon of Westminster, Dr Wilberforce, who will preach on the objects of the Congress. The work of the congress will be true at Caxton Hall, where there will be [2] also an exhibition relating to the development of the Animal Protection Cause. On one evening there will be a large public meeting in Queen's Hall and also on another an Anti-Vivisection play will be performed at one of the London theatres. I am writing to ask you to [illegible] This project by allow me to propose you as the Honorary President of the whole Congress; I need not tell you that we should ask of you no further participation in it than such a mark of sympathy would testify. The world wide admiration and respect which is accorded to your great services to science and also to your courage and humanity in having so strongly expressed your disapproval of vivisection, would bring our Congress the congratulations of many countries in having with us so many universally revered as Honorary President. We are hoping that Sir George Kekewich2 K.G.B., M.P. will undertake the arduous work of President of the Congress as he is indefatigable in his efforts against vivisection, and the various desirous will be presided over by some of the Vice-Presidents of whom there will be a considerable number.
