Wednesday P.M.

Alfred R. Wallace,

Broadstone, Wimborne,

England.

My dear Mr. Wallace:

You will be very sorry to hear that my honored father was gathered to his fore-bears on the 2nd of April last. We[sic] was in his eighty-eighth year when he passed away. His mind was clear to the last few hours and he slept life out quietly, peacefully and easily.

His regard for you was so sincere and deep that I feel I may write you personally of his going. If any notice of him should be published in England, I should prefer it to come from your pen.

By this post I am sending you a copy of the last number of the "Entomological News" which has a brief reference to him. Dr. C. J. S. Bethune of Guelph, Canada, will, also, publish a reference to him in the August number of the "Canadian Entomologist."

I will remember the pleasure he received from your visit to us at Coalburgh a number of years ago. And whenever I climb the mountain path which we traversed together I mark the continued growth of the plants which you found interesting and remarked upon. If you shall ever come to America again and find time to visit us, be very sure we shall be most gratified to receive you.

Always faithfully yours | W S Edwards

WSE/L.
