I gave Wallace's first letter³ to Miss J. who promised to write to Richet about it, as W. asked. I have now [illeg.] yr further enclosures for which she was waiting before writing. The workmanship of the picure is certainly very remarkable. Do you know what a 'copie aux traits' means, & whether 'tracer un tableau' means to take a tracing.⁴ If so, probably has eminent folk than Raphael might have done it. One [2] w^d like to know if Fabre⁵ is still alive, & whether Raphael can not only copy his own pictures but also do original work.

Sir. I w^d much like to meet Wallace. Does he even come to London nowadays!
